The contract is in place to protect session time and to make a commitment to tutoring as an ongoing
process rather than a "quick fix". Many students enroll in tutoring and then unenroll once there is some
success or a "good grade". This routine does not work long term because standards repeat themselves and
are often required to master a standard ahead of the one that is currently a struggle. This means if a
student has not mastered a standard, they will struggle the next time they have to apply it—especially
if the application is compounded by an additional requirement or differs from classroom instruction
examples.
Schedule
- The schedule we agree on will be followed each week. Please be sure to schedule during a time that
you are able to keep to avoid missed sessions.
- If an emergency arises, we will let each other know at our very earliest convenience. Emergencies
are defined as true emergencies.
- The contract is for 3-months. Once you have completed the 3rd month, you can schedule month to
month. I do not schedule weekly because I cannot accommodate each family on such short notice.
- Advance notice is defined as "at your earliest knowledge of expected absence or a minimum of 48
hours". This applies to non-emergencies.
- A 10-minute grace period is allowed for each session. The session still ends on time and the cost
remains the same.
- After two "no-shows", I reserve the right to end the contract and allow another student to schedule
during the agreed upon time. No refund of additional sessions or missed sessions will be issued.
- For missed sessions (with notice), it is possible I could reschedule for another time/day if we have
overlapping availability.
- Communication is key. I am flexible and willing to work out alternate plans, but
when I have a full schedule of students I cannot always accommodate multiple families with varying
schedules.
Expectations
- Students should have their materials and be ready to begin at our scheduled start time. I will let
you know what needs to be in their materials pack based on session type in advance. Students in
homework help sessions should have their materials to work on with an understanding of what is
expected; OG students should have their materials pack.
- Students should have used the restroom and eaten prior to our time together. If eating, it is
challenging to work on phonemic and phonological awareness because I need to hear enunciation and
articulation well. A drink is acceptable and should an emergency arise, students can go to the
restroom—it just should not be a disruption each session.
- Parents should communicate any test scores (benchmark, classroom, or standardized) to me so I can
keep a record of growth or struggle and which standards are struggle spots to continue working on or
mastered areas we no longer need to work on. This will help us make the most of our time together.
- Students will complete "check ups" every 5th session for progress monitoring purposes for the same
purpose explained above. Check-ups only apply to Orton-Gillingham, targeted skill intervention, and
fluency/comprehension sessions.
- The student is expected to read with an adult who can prompt them for error correction at least
three days per week. Tutoring time alone will not be enough support for measurable growth. (OG or
reading fluency and comprehension)
- If you decide to end services, a thirty-day written notice is required and no refund of currently
scheduled services will be given. You can decide whether your student attends the remaining sessions
you have paid for.
- If expectations listed here are not consistently (defined as 75% of scheduled sessions) followed, I
will communicate this to you. If the expectations continue to not be followed, I reserve the right
to end services at the end of our scheduled sessions without additional notice. I will communicate,
in writing, if expectations are not being followed.
- Communicate (or for students 3rd–12th, students can communicate) with teachers that the student/they
is/are working with a tutor so they are able to reschedule deadlines, tests and quizzes depending on
when we meet each week if we will be working on a concept they will be tested on. (If needed)
- Keep up with class schedule for tests and quizzes so I can have advance notice for planning to focus
our time toward the skill they will be assessed on. If your child struggles with executive
functioning, a planner may help.
Cost
- The cost of the session depends on the service option and how many sessions your child has per week.
Discounted prices apply to multiple sessions per week.
- Tutoring is invoiced for the number of sessions for the month ahead by the last day of the month or
on the day prior to the first day of service for new students. Payment is requested to be paid by
the 2nd of each month and within 3 days for new students. I accept payment through Venmo.
- If a session is missed and excused (emergency or advanced notice described above), it can be
rescheduled if we have overlapping availability or applied to the next month's services. This is
only permissible 2 times and applies to us both.
- If payment is not received by the 2nd of each month (without communication and an agreement between
us of another date), I reserve the right to end our contract and allow another student to enroll in
the spot. No refunds will be provided for the sessions scheduled due to the requirement of a 30-day
notice.
- No-show session funds will not be applied to the next month or repaid. I have still prepared for
these sessions and do not have a chance to fill them.
- If I "no-show", for emergency or otherwise, I will attempt to reschedule the session or apply the
cost of the missed session to the next month.
- When you provide a thirty-day written notice to end services, we will stop services on the final,
scheduled, day that has been paid. This will be the last session of the month. For example: You
decide to end services on 1/30 and provide written notice that day. You will make the payment for
the regular number of services for February and we will continue working through the end of February
until our last scheduled day. If you decide to end services and do not wish to continue attending
sessions per the schedule, the amount due will still be for the number of regularly scheduled
sessions because I require a 30 day prior written notice described above in "Expectations".
- If I am unable to continue services during a contract, I will refund the payment amount for the
remaining scheduled sessions that have been paid within 60 days. I will provide as much notice as I
am able.
